Nourish Mind, Body, and Soul with Friends and the One Love Learning Foundation in Montego Bay, Jamaica!

Friendship Force and our partner, the One Love Learning Foundation, would like to invite you on an incredibly unique exchange in Montego Bay, Jamaica! During this enlightening and fulfilling journey, you will get to experience firsthand the positive impact you can have on the life of a child growing up in poverty, all the while making new friendsand exploring the beauty of this Caribbean destination. 

Working with the local One Love team and staying at the legendary island home of lyricist Oscar Hammerstein, ambassadors will work to plant a seedling nursery at the Highland House farm, a 7-acre organic garden that serves the youth of Jamaica. A few mornings and afternoons will be dedicated to the completion of the nursery and, when it is all done, the nursery will be dedicated to the Friendship Force! There will also be an opportunity to visit a local school that will be a recipient of the seeds for their own schoolyard garden, and your wonderful work will contribute to the positive growth of Jamaica's children, while promoting global peace. 

You will be working alongside your Rastafarian host, Mama Ita, who will teach you many Jamaican traditions. You will learn to weave walls from palm leaves and attend a party in the bush with Mama Ita's family, along with other members of the Rastafarian community where you will enjoy a traditional dinner and dancing. 

On your day of leisure, you will be able to pick from 5 exciting excursions that will better acquaint you with beautiful Jamaica. Select dinners at the Highland House will feature guest speakers who will provide you with insight and information on island culture and traditions. Your farewell dinner will be served pot-luck style with many donated local dishes and 'fresh-from-the-garden' produce. You will dine with your new friends on the One Love team to celebrate your accomplishment and be entertained by the One Love Tribe Drummers and Dancers!

We hope you join what is sure to be a very special exchange to this beautiful country known for their laid back lifestyle and giving spirit!

You will be accommodated in the Hammerstein Highland House, which serves as the base for One Love's Jamaican efforts. Built for Gladys Cooper and later purchased by Oscar Hammerstein II, this house is the picture of tropical paradise. Situated on a mountainside, the Hammerstein Highland House is settled in amidst lush vegetation including mango trees, papaya groves and wonderful gardens. You will be staying in beautiful, luxuruious rooms with stunning views of Montego Bay and there will be fresh Jamaican coffee and a full breakfast served each morning, as well as optional sunrise yoga for relaxation and spiritual focus.

The cost of this exchange is $1645 USD and includes 6 nights of hotel accommodations at the Hammerstein Highland House, airport transfers from airport, transportation during the entire program, 19 meals (7 breakfasts, 6 lunches, 6 dinners), a welcome lunch, a farewell dinner, a farewell brunch, gratuities for staff, the van and driver, and FFI fees.

Discover Panama
 January 18 to 27, 2015

I’m Michael Wald of Friendship Force Dallas and I would like to invite you to join me on an exciting exchange to explore Panama! My wife and I spent two years living in Panama where I volunteered with the Peace Corps. We are eager to share with you this beautiful country we once called home. 

Panama is a country that is rapidly developing economically, but geographically maintains some of its wild and exotic natural life. During our exchange we will explore the traditional food and folklore of the Panamanian jungles. We will experience various forms of local artistic expression from fashion, to dance, to cuisine. For our adventurous friends, there will be opportunities to participate in some optional, more physical activities such as ziplining and kayaking. To see a full itinerary, click here. I am currently working to arrange homestays in Santiago, the future sight of the FF club in Panama.

- The cost of this exchange is $2065 USD for double occupancy and $2840 USD for single occupancy. Does not include airfare or most meals, unless otherwise noted in theitinerary.

- This exchange is Strenuous to Moderate activity level. Activities like optional kayaking and zip lining are available, and there will be long walks in a very hot climate. Ambassadors should be in good health.

Start by joining the FF of Greater Atlanta in the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The downtown Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he preached his messages of love and nonviolence, is an important place of pilgrimage for anyone who wants to reflect on the civil rights movement. Atlanta is also the final resting place of Dr. King and the home of the contemporary King Center for Nonviolent Social Change, which continues to make great strides for equality today. All of these elements make Atlanta the ideal place to begin your exploration of the remarkable story of African Americans’ struggle for equal treatment in society and under the law. Your home hosts in FF Greater Atlanta are eager to share these special places and stories with you.

Traveling then to Birmingham, you will travel the routes used by those who strove to end segregation in the 1960s. Visit important sites in the movement such as 16th Street Baptist Church, where four young black girls died in a racially-motivated bombing. We’ll also visit the Edmund Pettus Bridge where the 54-mile walk began as a peaceful protest for voting rights, despite repeated police brutality. Fifty years after the nonviolent movement began in Alabama and Georgia, your Friendship Force hosts look forward to exploring with you the amazing hope and courage of these historic communities.
